Much@s que
ronda.
Una vez llegad@s tod@s,
comenzamos a escribir historias.

The day started with the usual vocal and body warm up in charge of Fernando y Victoria, at the end the whole group, kids as well as guides ended up dancing, jumping and moving the whole body to the rhythm of the music.
Yesterday there was a BBQ, it was a gift from the community for the kids because of all the hard work they have been doing. There was some garbage left from it because there was rain, so after the warm up and through the form of a game, the group went out, running to gather and in less than five minutes we gathered all the garbage left out at the Cultural Community Centre –CCC_.
During the first part of the day we worked on theater and an intro to body language led by Fernando. In the first exercise every kid went in front of the group simply to look at his/her peers, trying to relax and not move the body, brathing softly. After, a mask made out of plaster, cloth and paper, was introduced to the kids. With the mask exercise Fernando was looking to accentuate their movements following the expression of the mask and their variants according to the angle of it. It was a very new experience for the kids and it was a lot of fun. A lot of the kids that did not feel comfortable participating before opened up because the fact that they could hide their face. To close the morning there was a voice and diction, basic elements to perform a scene, and day by day they are becoming stronger and we start getting to know the new voices that come out of them.
While the kids started to come back from recess we shared with the kids a South American drink, they were amazed and surprised by the way it is drank and shared: Mate. To our own surprise they liked it even though the bitter taste, some even did it twice.
Once all of them arrived, the group started writing stories. Each kid wrote a story thanks to their great imagination and the inspiration of this place about aluxes (Mayan Elfs) en Yaxunah. Some of them imagined the aluxes in their plantations, others in the Cenote or in their house. The common denominator is that they do exist and they are here to take care of them, their families, their plantations and the whole community.
As the last activity of the day, Abraham introduced the kids to puppet making using organic elements around the CCC. The objective is to create consciousness and to create without spending money, only collecting items and letting the imagination fly. To our surprise, they were so enthusiastic that they were able to finish 4 puppets. One Aluxe, a king, a queen and a “gringo.” Time flew by so fast that when we realized we were half and hour over our time, it was 3pm.
Hunger took us out of the place and the guides had their closing circle while we were eating at Doña Victoria’s house, who kindly made us an exquisite kidney bean soup mixed with rice and the fluffly tortillas made by hand.
It is a pleasure to be part of this group and enrich our spirits with these kids and their community.
